winter haiku d’hiver – a brisk chinook = un chinook frais

un chinook frais

Unless you are Canadian, you will probably will not know that the chinook is a warm wind which periodically blows over the Rocky Mountains, suddenly raising temperatures in Alberta from far below zero to above zero for two or three days. So this counts as a Canadian winter saijiki or seasonal word.

Some more astounding photos of Argentée in the woods in Ottawa:

NCC and Argentee

The first 2 photos in the first series of 3 are of the National Capital Commission Parkway, which is forest land running straight through the heart of Ottawa for 40 kilometres (25 miles for Americans). In the third photo we see Argentée sitting in the grass on top of the cliff you see in the first photo.

In the second series of 4 photos, you see Argentée in the grass again, and in the last photo you can see her merrily dragging me back home along the forest path. That is why she is in fact a forest cat. It is her breed. And she knows exactly where she is going.

The lovely soi-disant fresco “Les Parisiennes” (Knossos) original and on papyrus

Original Fresco: Click to ENLARGE

Les Parisiennes fresco Knossos original

Notice the fresh, white-washed, sun-bleached translucence of the original fresco, even after 3,500 years!

My replica of the fresco on papyrus: Click to ENLARGE

SILVER Replica of Les Parisiennes Fresco Knossos on papyrus

Notice the warm earthen colours of the papyrus version. You can also clearly see the texture of the papyrus on my own picture above. Sadly, I dropped it once and tore it and when I put it back together, it came out a bit crooked. But it is still lovely, and that is all the matters. I though to myself, what better way to begin the month of February, when Valentine’s is just 14 days away, right in the middle of the month, and so here you have them.

Enjoy them as much as I do.
