Sonnet I am the Resurrection and the Life Vulgate Version

Am I the Life 620

Am I the Life?

As Jesus moved her to these words, I say,
as Martha said, “I know he’ll rise again
in the last hour of the very last day.”
And Jesus asked, “Am I the light, if slain?
Do you believe in me?.. resurrected
as am I? Nor have I died! Believe and live...
Do you believe?” ... “Lord, I do, elected
as you are, Messiah to all who give
themselves to you alone, the Son of God,
come to this world!” And saying this, she left
an sought her sister Mary, who was so awed
she turned to her and said, “Be not bereft
as God is ours and we are his alone...
I know we’ll live beside him by his throne.”

Richard Vallance

This sonnet is based on John 11:24-27, here in English

24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;
26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

ad here in the Vulgate Latin:

24 Dicit ei Martha: Scio quia resurget in resurrectione in novissimo die.

I Argentée

I Argentee 620

I Argentée

I Argentée have lived a hardy life:
a Maine Coon mix, I’ve forded babbling rills,
the freest spirit, who’s never suffered strife!
Why, I have scaled formidable forest hills,
where I’ve run into coons and surly bears
who’ve never phased me in the very least;
I’ve roamed the fields and sounded foxes’ lairs,
so why be so surprised when I am deceased.
Because I pride the space I always crave,
although I was on leash, the leash was loose,
to leave me running free, for being brave,
since as you know I’ve always been so spruce!
For all the bugs I’ve chased and mice I’ve caught
I bid you, fairest friends, to mourn me not.

I realize now that very few people like my haiku anymore, probably because I write too many and folks are bored to death with them, but I do, and that is all that counts.

Je me rends enfin pleinement compte du fait que la plupart des gens n’aime plus mes haikus, peut-être parce-ce qu’à leur avis, j’en écris trop et ils en ont marre. mais moi, je les aime, et c’est tout ce qui compte.

Photos of my lovely and extremely smart Maine Coon mix cat, Argentée,

throughout her lifetime, 2003-2019. I had to euthanize her on March 14 and it was horrible. All the more so that my sweet tortoiseshell, Daisy, died a natural death on Dec. 28 2018! Argentée was a completely leash-trained cat, who used to go for walks with me for years, and who climbed trees until she was at least 9. She was so smart that unlike most cats, who get stuck in trees when the climb them, she shimmied down trees like a squirrel! Astonishing! She also responded to certain verbal phrases, such as:

2004aprila

2004june

2005marchb

Do you wanna go outside? (Trust me, she knew exactly what THAT meant!)
NO
cheese (She loved cheese)

2009marcha

april2010d

She was by far the smartest cat I have ever known in my life, and was always completely at home on her leash, when we went for walks and when she was in my front yard. Her leash was at least 4 metres long, so she had plenty of room to move around in in my front yard!

And here are her photos, lovely as she was!

PLEASE comment on them!

In this life or the next… a marvelous translation into ancient Greek and Mycenaean Linear B:

I just received an e-mail today from Brian Wyble, who sent me the inscription in English, ancient Greek and Linear B you see here:

in this life or the next Linear B and Greek620

What is so astonishing about his translation into both ancient Greek and Mycenaean Linear B is that he got both bang on, even though this is his first ever attempt at writing in both scripts. Given that he is just now learning ancient Greek and Mycenaean Greek simultaneously, I am frankly astonished by his amazing achievement. I have invited him to follow Linear A, Linear B, Knossos and Mycenae, and to start learning Linear B in earnest, so that he can soon turn to deciphering Linear B tablets. And believe me, as my colleague Rita Roberts can only too well attest to, he has his work cut out for him, in view of the fact that there are at least 1,000 tablets I can send him for decipherment.

Great Photos to Welcome us back home to Canada from our grand tour of central Europe!

After spending almost a whole month in Europe (25 days), starting first with Budapest, Hungary for 3 days, then continuing on to Vienna, Austria for 5 days, thence to Prague, the Czech Republic for a week, and finally on to Warsaw, Poland for our last 9 days, we are finally back home here in Canada, though as you can all well imagine, not without mixed emotions. It goes without saying that this was such an exciting vacation, visiting so many astonishingly beautiful locales, we must both miss Europe terribly, all the more so considering that we added side trips to 3 more magnificent cities, Salzburg and Krakow for Louis-Dominique and Gdansk for myself. What a totally unanticipated and unimaginably rewarding dream come true! Words simply cannot express our profound joy at visiting so many famous European cities, all of which date from the cradle of European, hence, Western, civilization.

While even photos cannot adequately express the profound spiritual impact these amazing venues had on us, they can at least offer you all a glimmer of the fantastic experiences that await you should you ever decide to do a grand tour of central & Eastern Europe yourself. Beginning with this post, I shall be posting 4 of my finest photos for each of the 6 cities we visited, from the approx. 6,000 (!) I took during our voyage. You are going to love them!

So let us start with Budapest, Hungary: Click each photo to ENLARGE it:
