Argentée, can you see her? … and sound asleep

canyouseeme and sound alseep

I suppose that by now some of you tire of seeing photos of Argentée outdoors, but I never do. Here she is in the afternoon of May 27 2018. If you can see her in the first photo, please leave a comment!

Some more astounding photos of Argentée in the woods in Ottawa:

NCC and Argentee

The first 2 photos in the first series of 3 are of the National Capital Commission Parkway, which is forest land running straight through the heart of Ottawa for 40 kilometres (25 miles for Americans). In the third photo we see Argentée sitting in the grass on top of the cliff you see in the first photo.

In the second series of 4 photos, you see Argentée in the grass again, and in the last photo you can see her merrily dragging me back home along the forest path. That is why she is in fact a forest cat. It is her breed. And she knows exactly where she is going.

My other 2 cats, Daisy and Shadow, both indoor cats

My other 2 cats, Daisy and Shadow, both indoor cats:

Daisy and Shadow 15052018

Here we have photos of my other two cats, Daisy and Shadow, both indoor cats. Daisy, who is a tortoiseshell, is the same age as Argentée (15), while Shadow is definitely the junior in the family (age 8). All of my cats are females. Daisy sleeps with me all the time, while Shadow always sits on the sofa in my living room. You can see why I call Shadow by her name. She is difficult to see in low light. So I have to watch where I step! To each her own. I am sure you will love them as much as I do.

I have been moderating this blog for years now, but I have never yet shown where I live and what it is like. My neighbourhood is quiet, but then so are almost all of them anywhere in Canada. I live in a little row house with 2 bedrooms, a living/dining-room, a laundry room and a garage. This is the house where Argentée spends all her time outside spring, summer and autumn, except of course when it rains, because she is after all a cat!

In the next 3 posts, I shall tell you some very interesting things about Canada, which is so very much unlike the United States in so many key respects.

Hope you like the photos!

Richard

Early Minoan hieroglyphic roundels and seals may lend some insight into the later development of the Linear A syllabary:

Minoan hieroglyphic writing

As illustrated above, early Minoan hieroglyphic roundels and seals may lend some insight into the later development of the Linear A syllabary. Notice that the the hieroglyphic for an axe or labrys looks remarkably like the Linear A and Linear B syllabogram for A, while the Y shaped hieroglyphic, whatever it is supposed to represent (and no one knows what), is similar to the Linear A syllabogram for SA. So it is conceivable, however remotely, that this hieroglyphic seal may actually read asa or saa, whichever way you read it (not that we have any idea what that is supposed to mean). Then we have the hieroglyphic marked with an asterisk (*). This looks very much like a vase, amphora or flask to hold wine, water or possibly even olive oil. There is another one which looks like a fish. That should not be too surprising, given that the ideogram for fish does appear on at least one extant Linear A fragment from Phaistos, as we have witnessed in a recent previous post. Finally, on the bottom line, the seal marked (f) bears a hieroglyphic which looks like a bat, and this in turn may very well be the antecedent to the Linear A syllabogram MA. But this hieroglyphic is not that of a bat, but rather of a cat, which we can see from the beautiful seal on the top left of the illustration. This is substantiated by the some of the variations in the scribal hands for Linear A MA, which indeed look like the visage of a cat, as we see here:

Linear A scribal hands for MA = cat

So I guess it is a cat.

Our assistant site moderator, Argentée, June 9 2017

Argentee June 9 2017

Argentée, my beautiful little cat, has now survived one year since her life-threatening illnesses from Dec. 2015 to June 2016:

Here are two photos of my lovely little cat, Argentée, who has amazingly survived two dreadful illnesses, first in Dec. 2015, when she had to have 7 teeth extracted and she contracted liver disease. That made her very weak for about two months. The second serious bout of illness she suffered came in the spring and lasted until June, when I finally figured out that, because she is an outdoor cat (on a long leash, of course) she contracted parasites. She age almost nothing in the spring and she only recovered, and very well indeed, when I administered her monthly doses of antiparisites until December. Her appetite soared, and she now eats like a pig. Still, she does not gain any weight, remaining very skinny. Oh well, so long as she is healthy. She sure is a tough old gal.

She has lost a lot of weight since then. She used to weigh about 5 kg. when she was younger, but now she is down to half that size, 2.5 kg.! She is so small now she looks like an older kitten rather than the older cat she now is, at age 13 going on 14. Her birthday is in May 2017, when she will turn 14. It sure looks like she is going to make it now.

Cretan hieroglyphic seals (Middle Minoan I & II, ca. 2100-1700 BCE):

Cretan hieroglyphic seals

On the first of these seals there appear 4 ideograms (?) which appear to be precursors of Minoan Linear A syllabograms, but there is no way of knowing whether or not this is the case.
