In Memoriam Joe Ruggier, Canadian poet and poetry publisher:

It is with the greatest regret that we announce the passing of Joe Ruggier on July 8 2018, Canadian poet and poetry publisher, based out of Richmond, B.C.

obituaryJoe

To put my professional relationship with Joe Ruggier into proper context, it is needful for me to clarify that before I started specializing in Mycenaean Linear B linguistics in 2013, subsequent to my unforgettable trip to Greece and Knossos, Crete, in May 2012, I was a poet over decades, and colleague of Joe Ruggier. Two of Joe Ruggier’s scores and scores of highly memorable sonnets, so many of which he dedicated to his belovèd daughter, Sarah, “Stellar Moonrise” (pg. 51), based on John Keat’s stunning masterpiece,“Bright Star” (pg. 51), both here:

Bright Star and Stellar moonrise

and “love-sonnet, where shall a body run?” (pg. 94)

were published in international, multilingual sonnet anthology, The Phoenix Rising from the Ashes = Le Phénix renaissant de ces cendres (251 pp.), published in 2013 by Richard Vallance Janke, Editor-in- Chief, which you can download here

Canada, one of the most amazing and most peaceful countries in the world!

Of all the countries in the world, Canada surely ranks as one of the most beautiful. Canada is the second largest country in the world, covering 4,000 kilometres coast to coast, or 10 % of the circumference of the earth. Our population is a mere 36,000,000, making us one of the least populated countries in the world. China is fourth, with 2 billion inhabitants! But what really makes us stand out is our rank among the top most peaceful countries in the world! We rank 7th. or 8th. all the time, twice even coming in ahead of Switzerland! See the figures below:

First set:

Canada 7 and 8 most peaceful

Second set:

Canada 8 most peaceful versus USA 114

Notice that on the last chart in the second set, Canada ranks eighth and the United States 114! This is because guns are an absolute, hotly contested and irrevocable right in the USA, this situation running counter to all the basic principles of democracy, and accounting for their crime and murder rates, which is 10 times per capita greater than Canadas, where acquiring guns is merely a privilege, as in most democratic nations, not a right by law.

God has surely blessed a very few nations on earth, and we are among the select few.

3 So watch yourselves. “If your brother or sister sins against you,
rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them.
4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day, and seven times
come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

Luke 17: 3-4

Is humankind so kind or so unkind
we have embraced and have abandoned love
we harmonized ... or despotize to blind
ourselves to pitying the mourning dove? —
or mob ourselves with xenophobic crime? —
and chase our dreams but chase them all away? —
We pillorize our neighbours half the time,
while terrorizing those for whom we pray.
Come on! What, come again? Can you explain
why our religion has to reign supreme,
while theirs and yours must suffer mindless pain
to kill our worlds that no one can redeem.
Excuse me, God... Hey, do You give a damn
as we expose our souls to another scam?

Attack on Mosque, Quebec City an act of vile, barbaric & senseless violence!

At least 6 people were killed, 5 critically injured and 3 more injured in a shooting at a mosque in Quebec City during evening prayers, police said. Gunmen fired on about 50 people inside the Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre on Sunday at 8 p.m. local time (01:00 GMT).

mosque-attack-quebec-reutersSix people are confirmed dead - they range in age from 35 to about 70, Quebec provincial police spokeswoman Christine Coulombe told reporters, adding that eight people were wounded and 39 were unharmed. Police said two suspects had been arrested, but gave no details about them or what prompted the attack. The mosque's president, Mohamed Yangui, was not inside the mosque at the time of the shooting. He received frantic calls from worshippers.
He said, “Why is this happening here? This is barbaric.”

Comment by Richard Vallance Janke:

As a Canadian in a peace-loving and highly tolerant country such as Canada (quite unlike the United States with its xenophobic president, Donald Trump, at whose doorstep we can lay part of the blame!), I am utterly horrified and shocked at the act of vile, barbaric, senseless, violent murderous attack on a Muslim mosque in Quebec City, around 8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2017. Words cannot describe my horror or that of almost all 36 million Canadians at this savage act of terror! I urge and implore all who visit Minoan Linear A, Linear B, Knossos & Mycenae to tag this post with LIKE and to reblog it, as well as to retweet it on your twitter accounts! I dissolved in tears this morning when I woke up to hear of this vile act of terrorism. Here are two photos from the night of the attack:

Sonnet, “Nathan Cirillo”, in Honour of Canada’s Fallen Son: Click to ENLARGE

A Sonnet Nathan Cirillo

Nathan Cirillo’s State Funeral was profoundly moving in every sense, above all emotionally & spiritually. Although (only) a Reservist Corporal in the Princess Highlanders of Hamilton, he was today, Oct. 28 2014, accorded a full regalia honourary military funeral, which has never been granted to anyone of such a low rank in the history of Canada or for that matter, in the entire world. This was surely because of the obscenity of the terrorist shooting him as he stood guard on the right side of the National War Memorial in Ottawa, at 9:52 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Worse still, he slumped right on top of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, bleeding to death on it! He was a wonderful, loving father of his 5 year- old son, Marcus, and everyone who knew him personally, loved him. For Marcus, Click to ENLARGE:

NathanCirillo24withhiswonderfulsonMarcus5

All of his friends, and he had many, were completely shattered by his death. He was a lover of dogs, and he rescued so many strays. His dogs adored him, and when he did not return home, they whimpered for days at the front gate of his home. He was so close to his best friend, Brendan Stevenson, that he even slept with him, cuddling him, as you can see in one of the attached photos, even though he was perfectly straight, and had an adorable girl-friend.

Nathan cuddling up to Brandon Stevenson asleep
You can see from his photos that he was still a child at heart. What a terrible loss to Canada and to the entire world!

In Memoriam Aeternam Corporal Nathan Cirillo, shot to death 9:52 a.m., Oct. 22 2014 (in Linear B, ancient Greek, Latin, French & English): Click to ENLARGE:

in memoriam Corporal Nathan Cirillo
Yesterday, at 9:52 a.m. a crazed madman stylizing himself as a “jihadist”, a despicable word if ever there was, fired two rounds from a high powered rifle into the back of Corporal Nathan Cirillo, who was standing guard at the National War Memorial in our lovely city, Ottawa, the Capital of Canada. The killer then drove in a stolen car straight over to the House of Commons, rushed through the front doors of Parliament, and fired at least 30 shots in the main corridor leading to the Library of Parliament, before being shot to death by the Sargent at Arms, Kevin Vickers. Fortunately, the Members of Parliament were all in caucus at that time. Had the shooter arrived only an hour later, when the corridors were full of M.P.s and other people, the death toll would have been horrendous, in this, the first terrorist attack ever directly on the seat of government in any nation.

The shock waves that ran through Canada and all around the world were instantaneous and horrifying. As a devout Canadian, I was so stunned, and then enraged yesterday that even today I cannot get over this brutal act of violence. Shame on radical Muslims, shame on Daesh! You are the very antithesis of civilized people; you are barbaric monsters. We will never forget what you have done to our peaceful nation, and you shall never live this down, so help us God.

Please note that I tweeted this eulogy to all of the TV networks above.

Richard

Without further ado (or maybe with it!) let’s all wish Rita Happy Birthday with her WIPO & EREPATO! Click to BLOW UP, eh...

Linear B -001 -02

I simply have not the faintest idea (though if I did, I probably would faint!) who designed this cluttered Birthday Card, but they must have been high on mushrooms, marijane or some kind of hallucinogen, eh. OMG! And the notes! They fairly shout at us, Hey READ ME, why don’t you, anyway, eh! (eh being Canajun for A, ha ha!, and since I am a Canajun, I know what THAT means, eh!... so do all other Canajuns, a few Brits, a few Aussies & a few Kiwis, but no Yanks, who for some bizarre reason insist on saying, HUH?, which unlike EH! sounds kinda stupid, eh!). I don’t know about YOU, but I am going to fly to Herakleion (& if you don’t know where that is or you are American & don’t know anyway, FORGET IT, EH!)

So have a wonderful, stupendous, hyper-terrific, copacetic, ecstatic, far out, flighty, spacey, what planet are YOU from?, Plan 9 1/2 from Outer Space etc. etc. etc. Birthday, eh, Rita.... because WIPO simply does not have the graphic skills, let alone writing skills, to cobble together another Birthday Card like this for at least another year, eh. Anyway, it IS one astonishing CARD, totally unique on this little planet of ours full of HUGE ELEPHANTS and little WIPOs, don’t you think, eh?

Yours most sincerely trying with all my might to avoid any nearby EREPATOS! Oh and of course Rita will have to Translate this great card for us, because no Canajun in his or her right mind would even dream of translating it, except for a million Euros... hint, hint, Rita, eh.

Ton ami canadien (Canajun eh!) Click to ENLARGE, even if no-one has ever seen an enlarged beaver! They sure would not like that, and might nibble your finger nails off if you tried!

Canajun eh!
