summer haiku d’été – my Hopi tie = ma cravate Hopi

my Hopi tie –
she shouts, I love that tie!
and I, so do I!

Hopi tie 620

ma cravate Hopi –
elle crie, j’adore cette cravate !
et moi, moi aussi !

Richard Vallance

As it so happens, last evening, May 4, while my boyfriend, Louis-Dominique and I were on the way to see the mind-blowing concert by Leela Gilday at the National Arts Centre, Ottawa, a woman shouted out, I LOVE THAT MAN’S TIE!... to which I of course replied, SO DO I!

Leela Gilday chants,
her voice the snowy owl’s
and the tundra greens

Leela Gilday chants 620

Leela Gilday chante,
elle est la chouette blanche –
que la toundra verdit !

Richard Vallance

And here is the link to her fantastic site, Leela Gilday, K’eintah Natse Ju:

https://www.leelagilday.com/

By some fabulous and bizarre co-incidence, her middle name Natse is almost identical to the Japanese word, Natsu, which means summer!

the bear moon
over our hunters’ trails –
Windigo’s lairs

Bear Moon Windigo

la lune de l’ours
par-dessus nos sentiers –
tanières du Windigo

Richard Vallance

In the lunar calendar of the Amerindian Ojibways, Mkwa-Giizis, the Bear Moon, roughly corresponds to the month of February.

ravens in flight,
ravens on totem poles,
rainforest tricksters

totem pole620

corbeaux en vol
et sur les mâts totémiques,
filoux forestiers

Richard Vallance

In the Amerindian culture of the Pacific west coast Haida, tricksters are awfully naughty clowns essential to any contact with the sacred.
