The actual title for Lorenzo is Lorenzo the Magnificent, but this does not fit into a senryu. The church illustrated here is la chiesa santa croce firenze orari. Christ has more than one face.

While I am the author of this haiku, the author of this amazing painting goes by the pen name Cocochewy. This painting is highly reminiscent of those by the canadien Group of Seven painters.

This photo was taken of the magnificent Landmannalaugar of Iceland.

This is the first of many haiku I shall be composing based on the magnificent paintings of the most famous of the illustrious Canadian Group of Seven painters of the early twentieth century, Tom Thomson (1877-1917). Tom Thomson disappeared on Canoe Lake on July 8, 1917. He was presumed drowned.

The ancient Greek alphabetical numeric system:

ancient greek numerals

This chart illustrates both the ancient Greek acrophonic and alphabetical numeric systems. However, the acrophonic system, used primarily in Classical Athens ca. 500 – 400 BCE, came much later than the alphabetical system. So in effect we must resort to the only Greek numeric system we can use to represent numbers in Mycenaean Greek numbers, i.e. the alphabetical system. The alphabetical numbers are displayed in the second column after the modern numbers, 1 – 100,000 in the following chart. Here are some examples of alphabetic numbers representing Mycenaean numbers:

mycenaean numbers followed by their alphabetic greek equivalents

It is to be noted that the supersyllabogram TE, which appears in the text tagged 2. refers to the Linear B word TETUKUOWA = tetu/xu #oa, which literally translated means “well prepared” or “ready”, in other words “finished” cloth or textile, in this case “finished wool”.
